Medieval town centre

On a hilltop in the northern part of the Cilento - not far from the ancient Greek places of cultural interest at Paestum - lies the tranquil, medieval mountain village of Torchiara. Amongst others excellent wine, e.g. the Casebianche wine, is grown on the slopes facing the sea.

Torchiara was founded around the year 1000, when many inhabitants left their homes in the coastal area in fear of the Saracens and their raids and sought refuge in the surrounding mountains.

The medieval town center with its narrow alleys is grouped around Palazzo Torre, the landmark of the village, and Palazzo Pavone.
