Caprioli is a perfect place for beach holidays. Hiking into the hinterland as well as looking out for historical traces from ancient times may, however, also be worth your while. All the holiday homes you can book with us at Pisciotta-Caprioli offer a fantastic view of the sea.
The association “Kenotafion” has made it its duty to keep the sights of ancient Caprioli from being forgotten. Be it a palazzo from the 17th century, a Lucanian burial site, a small 200-year old castle or the remains of a windmill – Caprioli still has a lot to tell about its history.
On the coastal road from Palinuro to Velia, the medieval village of Pisciotta is picturesquely situated on a hill above the Mediterranean Sea. Walking the narrow, terraced alleys and passing palazzi and houses dating from the 16th century, you experience the unique atmosphere of real Italian village life.
In spite of its closeness to the sea, Pisciotta is not overrun by tourists; centuries-old customs and traditions are preserved and kept alive.
At and around the village piazza you find grocery stores and bars, a cash dispenser and the post office are also nearby. "I Tre Gufi" ("Three Tawny Owls") is a restaurant we recommend stopping by - not only for a delicious meal, but also for a splendid view of the sea from its terrace at the foot of the medieval palazzo, at the highest point of Pisciotta.
From Pisciotta you can either follow a footpath (1 km) or the road (3 km) to get to the beach of Marina di Pisciotta. The medieval alleys of Pisciotta are not accessible by car or scooter. Sufficient parking facilities are, however, found around the center.
Possible sports activities: swimming, diving, horseback riding, cycling, hiking, mountain biking, tennis etc.
Nearest train station: Pisciotta-Palinuro.
Public transport: From Caprioli, there is a bus several times daily to Pisciotta and to the authentic mountain village of Rodio. Interurban busses of the Infante-Domenico & Co. company take you conveniently from Pisciotta to the towns of Palinuro, Marina di Camerota and Camerota.
