They form a harmonious blend – the sea and the headland of Punta Licosa, which lie at the feet of elegant holiday home Villa Carolina. Family Radano has put passion and enthusiasm into building this refuge on a 7000 m² property in exposed location on the municipal boundary of the towns of Montecorice and Castellabate in the northern Cilento.
The white seating accommodation in front of the darkish quarry stone façade looks inviting. We sit down and, without uttering a word, we let the impression of the uninhibited view of the sea opening up before us sink in.
Modern Villa Carolina is surrounded by a fenced, ca. 100 m² garden, in which dwarf fan palms and fruit trees grow as well as the olive and fig trees typical for the Cilento. Every now and then you might wish to relax and enjoy the summer in their shade.
A 5-minute drive by car takes you to the charming sandy beach of Baia d’Arena, which stretches all the way to Ogliastro Marina and offers an impressive coastal panorama.
With its 4 bedrooms, Villa Carolina is the ideal holiday accommodation for a large family or families who are friends or for several couples.
One of the bedrooms, all of which are furnished with double beds, is located on the ground floor. One of the three bathrooms, the living-dining area with a cozy sofa corner and Sat-TV as well as the well-appointed kitchenette made of solid wood and with dining furniture are also found on this floor.
The kitchen includes a gas stove with oven and a refrigerator with freezer compartment. There is a grill at your disposal in the outdoor area; the latter includes the ca. 70 m² furnished sea view terrace, which is accessible from the living area.
Next to the kitchenette, the masonry staircase, its curved design a real eye-catcher, juts a bit, however unobtrusively, into the room. It takes you up to Villa Carolina’s first floor, which includes three bedrooms as well as two bathrooms.
As each of these double bedrooms opens unto a small balcony, you can enjoy the fantastic coastal panorama right in the morning. All the bedrooms are furnished with fly screens.
The three bathrooms are equipped with shower cabin, WC and bidet. A hair dryer and a washing machine are at your disposal, too. The outdoor shower in the garden comes in handy after a day at the beach or to freshen up a bit while sunbathing.
Please note: In summer, the garden has to be watered almost daily, in the evening, for about 20 minutes. This is done by the very discreet owning family. Should you believe this to disturb your privacy, an alternative concerning this matter will be found prior to your arrival.
There is a supermarket (Despar) about 300 m off on the coastal road between San Marco di Castellabate and Montecorice. More shopping facilities are found in the larger towns of Castellabate and Santa Maria di Castellabate.
A weekly market takes place every Saturday morning at the mountain village of Castellabate (center) and on Wednesday morning at Montecorice.
Along the coast between Santa Maria di Castellabate and Acciaroli, the latter ca. 13 km south of Villa Carolina, you find a lot of spots for sunbathing and swimming in the sea. Many beaches fly the blue flag for excellent water quality and clean beaches. The beach of Montecorice with Baia d’Arena, about 1.5 km from your holiday home, flies this flag regularly, too.
From Villa Carolina you can go on several excursions in the northern part of the Cilento National Park, which should, in any case, include visits to the mountain village of Castellabate, the fishing village of Acciaroli and the excavation site of Paestum. If you prefer walks and hiking tours, do not miss out on the headland of Punta Licosa and Monte Licosa.
It is as authentic as the landscape of the Cilento – its local cuisine. There are two restaurants in the immediate surroundings of Villa Carolina. Particularly worth mentioning is small Le Gatte, located right at the seaside, south of Lungomare De Simone at Santa Maria di Castellabate, where they serve, above all, the Slow Food products typical for the region. Very good fish cuisine is also found at Ristorante Da Carmine at Ogliastro Marina 3 km off.
