It is in absolutely idyllic, solitary location above the mountain village of Vibonati that Lisa, native from Tyrol, and Amedeo, a Neapolitan, have realized their dream of living between mountains and sea and in the midst of untouched, spectacular nature.
Their marvelous country house with quarry stone façade has been built according to strictly sustainable principles and with natural materials. It offers a wonderful and unobstructed view across a wide green valley as far as the Gulf of Policastro.
The idea to share the house and the corresponding rural-autonomous way of life with guests from all over the world was part of the concept of “Il Sughero” right from the beginning. That is why the two guest rooms for up to four persons each in the annex have been 'created'.
The two rooms are located next to each other and open onto the 100 m², partly roofed terrace, which runs the length of the house. Each guest is sure to find a spot where she/he can retreat to, relax in the hammock and enjoy the view of the Gulf of Policastro. Part of the large terrace is furnished with tables and chairs. That is where breakfast and, upon prior reservation, dinner are served.
The guest rooms are ca. 20 m² in size each and identically furnished with untreated wooden furniture. Furnishing includes a double bed and a bunkbed for one person; the rooms are, however, large enough to put up an additional bed. They are therefore perfect for a family with two small children who want to spend their holidays far from tourist crowds and from today's fast pace of life.
Each of the two rooms includes a bathroom with shower cabin, WC and bidet. During your stay you are provided with homemade natural soaps. A hair dryer and fly screens are a matter of course and free WLAN is also available at Il Sughero.
Apart from the magnificent landscape all around Il Sughero, the estate offers whatever you wish for on a small farm. A lush fruit and vegetable garden provides the ingredients for your daily breakfast and for Amedeo’s and Lisa’s home restaurant. In the garden, which is open to the guests, the couple grows above all ancient local kinds of fruit and vegetables, which have thus been saved from vanishing altogether.
Young guests at the Agriturismo are sure to enjoy the animals living there: the rambling premises are home to goats, ducks and chicken as well as two family dogs and a few playful cats.
Home restaurant Ameli
Amedeo’s and Lisa’s home restaurant is open to the guests of the country estate and to visitors from outside. Cooking is done – as the name suggests – in the couple’s large eat-in kitchen and upon prior reservation. Dinner, two courses and a dolce, is, in general, served on the large panorama terrace. The ingredients for the dishes are mainly home-made and home-grown. Upon request, vegan and gluten-free dishes are offered, too.
The pizza oven is also used at regular intervals. As a native Neapolitan, Amedeo of course includes a real southern Italian pizza in his menu. Not only the pizza is backed in the wood-fired oven, but also the bread you enjoy for breakfast with home-made jam, goat’s cheese and local honey.
For hikers, Il Sughero is very conveniently located in the Cilento National Park. Italy’s largest National Park Pollino and the lesser known protected area Val d’Agri near Potenza (Basilicata) are, however, also merely a stone’s throw off.
Right from your accommodation you can start on short hiking tours to medieval Vibonati and through the pine woods of Santa Lucia. A short drive by car takes you to more hiking and loop trails, which include such classics as “Grotte del Bussento” near Morigerati, the seaside panorama trail between Marina di Camerota and Scario at maritime wildlife park Infreschi and Monte Bulgheria near Scario. Charming as well is a hiking tour along the ancient road which runs from Sapri to Acquafredda in the neighboring Basilicata region.
Lisa and Amedeo provide you with GPS data for the various trekking and bike trails, so enjoy varied active holidays in the Cilento and its neighboring regions. Should your feet need a day of rest, stop and relax at the sandy beach of Villammare 7 km off. The black beach bays of Maratea in the Basilicata region are also very interesting and fascinating.
