The crystal clear, cobalt blue sea and the beautiful beaches and bays invite you to enjoy swimming from May to the beginning of November.
During season, there are various places where pedal and sailing boats, surf boards, deck chairs and sun shades can be rented. Outside the Italian holiday months of July and August, you have got the coast almost to yourself!

The variety of the Cilento’s more than 100 km of coastline is fascinating. Gentle hills, spectacular cliffs, wide and gently sloping sandy beaches as well as small, hidden shingle bays characterize the landscape.
Some of the roads leading to the sea amaze you with fantastic panoramic views (e.g. from Camerota to Marina di Camerota and the coastal road near Maratea).
Every year, the Cilento scores exceptionally well concerning the ranking of beaches with excellent bathing water quality. The FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) bases its choice on very strict criteria. For years, the Cilento has been the top of the list in Campania. Many municipalities are allowed to fly the coveted “bandiera blu”, the “Blue Flag”. Bathing bays Cala Bianca and Infreschi were even listed among Italy's most beautiful beaches. Marinella beach at the Cape of Palinuro also counts among the country's top beaches.
Gently sloping, fine sandy beaches ideal for families are found, for example, at Paestum, Acciaroli, Marina di Ascea, at Palinuro and in its surroundings, at and around Marina di Camerota as well as at Villammare.
Scario attracts you with bathing bays accessible only by boat. It shimmers in shades of turquoise and is fantastically clear – the water along the coast is like along the coast from Scario towards Porto Infreschi and further on towards Marina di Camerota. At and around Scario, you find shingle beaches within walking distance of the village center.
Maratea is considered one of Italy's last bathing paradises. Beautiful sandy and shingle beaches as well as small, dreamy bays along the steep coast invite you to enjoy sunbathing and swimming. A distinctive feature of the Costa di Maratea are its black lava beaches, e.g. at Maratea Cersuta. The environmental organization Legambiente listed this bathing area as one of the most beautiful in Italy.
Appealing shingle beaches and picturesque bays are found a bit further to the south, near Marina di Maratea.
Castrocucco and its kilometers of sandy beach mark the southern end of this scenically breathtaking coastal area.
