Should you want to experience Italy the way it used to be, the Cilento village of Pisciotta is the place to go. The picturesque mountain village, which is only ca. 1 km from the sea, has preserved its very special charm. The latter includes meeting in the piazza in the evenings, playing cards at the bar as well as the Ape rattling through the narrow alleys of the village.
At one of Pisciotta's most beautiful squares lies family Infante's Casa Girasole. The holiday apartment is located in a historic building on Piazzetta Pagano and covers two floors. From the typically local apartment your gaze roams across the rooftops of the surrounding buildings towards the sparkling blue of the sea.
The entrance to Casa Girasole lies on the second floor of the palazzo (no elevator!). The apartment accommodates up to 4 persons.
The kitchen, dining and living areas are found in one large room on the lower floor. The kitchenette is equipped with, amongst others, stove, oven, refrigerator and microwave. Apart from the dining furniture, furnishing of the living area includes a sofa, TV and a fireplace. The room opens onto a narrow, small balcony, which overlooks Piazzetta Pagano and offers a view of the sea.
A spiral staircase runs to the upper floor of Casa Girasole and to the double bedroom with sea view and the bathroom with shower cabin, WC, bidet and hair dryer.
At the top of the staircase there is a kind of pass-through room with two single beds. They are not recommended as a sleeping facility for very young children as they are very close to the staircase.
Casa Girasole is located in the historic center of Pisciotta and can therefore not be reached by car. Public parking is found in the immediate vicinity of the center.
The lovely piazzetta in the medieval center of Pisciotta is surrounded by residential buildings. From the square you also reach the church of the village. Apart from June to September there is nothing business-like or commercial going on in the piazzetta. It is during the aforementioned months that exquisite fish restaurant "Malabar" on Piazzetta Pagano opens its doors (only in the evenings from 20.00 h to 22.30 h). In June and September the restaurant is, in general and as experience has shown, frequented only at the weekends.
Long before Vallo della Lucania became the official "capital" of the Cilento region, Pisciotta used to hold this title. For this reason infrastructure in the village has remained good and proper. Onsite you find a post office, banks, medical care, several small supermarkets, bars, a handful of good and recommendable restaurants, fruit and vegetable shops, stores and a popular weekly market. All the stores, bars and restaurants are within easy walking distance of Casa Girasole.
Marina di Pisciotta with its beaches, harbor, boat rental and seaside promenade, where you find inviting restaurants/bars right by the sea, can also be reached on foot. The ca. 1 km path down to Marina is partly a typically southern Italian stepped path.
Between the sea and the mountain village lie countless, one-hundred-year-old olive groves, which characterize the landscape of Pisciotta and its surrounding districts. It therefore comes as no surprise that the tradition of producing olive oil goes far back and has always been an important economic factor for the village.
A certain change has, however, been taking place: A new and young generation of Pisciottani has rediscovered oleiculture, olive-growing, for themselves and has raised its quality to a very high level. The district of Rodio, where young Angelo di Blasi produces his awarded olive oil extra vergine "Rodyum", plays a central part. Degustation of this and other olive oils takes place regularly at Cantina Lamadé (Piazza Pinto, Pisciotta), where you can also buy the olive oil and other local delicacies.
