Torchiara Ortskern medieval town Italy Palazzo Cilento
Landmark of Torchiara: the Palazzo Torre in the medieval town centre.

In the north of the Cilento – not far from the ancient Greek places of cultural interest in Paestum – on a hill top lies the idyllic medieval mountain village of Torchiara. Surrounded by ample green countryside the view stretches all the way to the sea.

Medieval town centre

Torchiara was founded around the year 1000, when many inhabitants of the coastal area fled to the surrounding mountains in fear of the Saracens. The medieval town centre with its narrow alleys is grouped around the landmark of the village, the Palazzo Torre, and the Palazzo Pavone.
