Here you will find tips and experiences taken from our Cilento-travellers' feedbacks in 2008. Of course we would be glad to receive your comments and pictures as well!

What were you particularly pleased by in the Cilento? “A lot of nature, no large hotel complex, steep coast with small bays, clean water, beautiful hiking possibilities” And regarding your accommodation? “Well, actually, everything! Above all, the quiet location amid olive groves, the outdoor sitting area beneath the lemon tree in front of the house, beautiful and spacious rooms as well as a lot of space inside and outside.” E. Dippon, holiday home Casa Ulivo (Cilento), September 2008.
That’s what a good holiday is like
“Dear Cilentano-Team! It took us four weeks to fill in the questionnaire. Should the bottle of olive oil, nevertheless, find its way into our kitchen, we would be very happy. The Cilento cuisine did leave a lot of wonderful memories. We booked a holiday apartment to do our own cooking, among other things. We ended up eating out almost every day, except for twice. The restaurants’ offers were simply too good. And we did not put on any weight – what with all the ‘exercise’ in the sea and on hiking tours during the daytime. That’s what a good holiday is like!” D. Haralambie and W. Schmitz, holiday home Villino Iolanda (Cilento), September 2008.

“Hello, dear folks of Cilentano, summer is passing and I have finally found the time to send you some photos of our wonderful holiday at Marina di Camerota. In the picture, our “sonny” as helmsman during the boat tour.” A. Eichberg, holiday apartments Villa Maricarmen (Cilento), June 2008.

“Dear Cilentano-Team, we would like to thank you very much for the olive oil. We have just sorted through our holiday photos and we want to pass on some of our impressions. It was really very nice in the Cilento (nature, people, the sea) and we enjoyed our stay there very much.” U. Hermann, holiday home Casa Granata (Cilento), October 2008.

“At the market taking place every Friday at Sapri. We can well imagine returning to the Cilento, because there is still a lot worth discovering in this area.“ N. v. Fischer, holiday apartment Casa Angela and holiday home Villetta degli Ulivi (Cilento), September/October 2008.
We will recommend you!
“We would like to thank you sincerely. We have been to the Cilento for the third time now and you have always found wonderful holiday apartments for us. There has never been anything to criticize. We would also like to thank you for the regular customers’ discount. Great! Keep up the good work, we will recommend you!” C. Thieltges and P. Heinrich, holiday apartments Casa La Piazzetta (Cilento), August 2008

“We really enjoyed our stay in the Cilento as well as at the Amalfi coast. Our special experiences: Near Paestum (Cilento) we came across a wonderful herd of buffalo! Magnificent animals. At the Amalfi coast, we met a farmer with mules.” B. and C. Aeschbach-Elsener, holiday apartments Villa Adriana (Cilento) and B&B Orto Paradiso (Amalfi coast), September/October 2008.

„Dear staff of Cilentano. It was with a heavy heart that we left the Cilento on Wednesday to return to Hamburg. Casa Angela as well as the weather met with our greatest expectations. It would take a rather long letter to list all the advantages and the charming as well as convenient features of the house and its location. Be assured that we were perfectly happy.” T. and A. Pawlouschek, holiday apartment Casa Angela (Cilento), September/October 2008.

“We were particularly pleased by the wonderful landscape, no high-rise hotels, few tourists. It was the nearby sea and the quiet which we appreciated at our accommodation. Our tip for Maratea: the Calabria-Basilicata-guide by Peter Amann. We would like to return, there is still much to discover.” Dr. U. Behnecke, Hotel Illicini (Cilento/Maratea), September 2008.

“Dear Cilentano-Team, we enjoyed our holiday very much. We laughed a lot and with fantastic 27° C in October, we got a good deal of rest and relaxation at the beach of Ogliastro Marina. We would also like to thank you for some of your tips. This will not have been our last trip to the Cilento.” I. Heinz, Hotel da Carmine (Cilento), October 2008.
Silvery full moon in the Tyrrhenian Sea
“It was a perfect holiday. To be pointed out – the varied landscape, best water quality as well as the nice and hospitable people. Casale Valentino is really magnificent. The inside of the house and the outside, the location, the furnishing: everything perfect. The hosts are very friendly people, too. (…) The most beautiful moment: relaxing on a deck chair on the terrace of Casale Valentino at midnight and feeling almost detached from everything with the full moon shimmering silvery in the Tyrrhenian Sea. (…) We are sure to return!“ Fam. Hackenjos, holiday home Casale Valentino (Cilento), August 2008.

In the picture: Padre Pio, who is highly revered in Southern Italy. “Dear Cilentano-Team! It was our 3rd holiday in the Cilento, and again we enjoyed it very much. As before, we were particularly pleased by the fact that the area has not yet been ruined by large hotels and tourist developments. Villa Maricarmen is a well-tended residence, its location regarding the beach and the town is fantastic and the upper-floor apartments offer a great view. The last few days at Hotel Sonia were great, too. A room with sea view balcony, breakfast out-of-doors on the terrace, directly at the sandy beach, there’s definitely something to be said for that. Special experience: Clear views from Monte Stella for 200 km on the day following wind- and thunderstorms, Amalfitana, Capri and Ischia clearly visible, but was it really Stromboli we saw??? Well, we will gladly visit this fantastic area again; we still have a lot to discover.” D. and D. Hammer, holiday apartments Villa Maricarmen and Hotel Sonia (Cilento), September/October 2008.
Romantically cosy sea view-panorama-terrace
“It was not only best weather but also the fantastic lodging with its romantically cosy sea view-panorama-terrace that put a special mark on our holiday. We would not have discovered Pisciotta without your excellent descriptions and tips. We are absolutely delighted by the picturesque landscape, the crystal clear sea and the villagers’ kindness.” S. and A. Horvath, holiday apartment Casa Giovanna (Cilento), September 2008.

“Our Cilento-tips: A piece of pizza fresh from the baker’s ... and then savouring it at the lungomare of Marina di Camerota with a view of the harbour. Get the best ice cream and the best caffé at the Bar Da Vittorio in Marina di Camerota. Ristorante Da Brera: good food and amusing brothers.” J. Gather, Hotel Calypso and holiday apartments Villino Troccoli (Cilento), August/September 2008.

“Dear Cilentano-Team, yesterday we returned from our holiday in the Cilento and we are still full of enthusiasm. It was a good choice to spend our annual leave in that area and to turn to you for support. Thanks a lot for handling our matter smoothly and reliably at short notice. Everything worked out well. Villa Nelli’s location is very good regarding quiet and panorama and the furnishing is above average for a holiday home.” J. and M. Prechtl, holiday home Villa Nelli (Cilento), October 2008.

„Our insiders’ tip for Sicily: Cava Grande del Cassibile. The canyon is located to the northwest of Avola in the eastern part of Sicily. Here, the river Cassibile forms a canyon which is 10 km long and 250 m deep. From the vista point, there is a stairway in the rocks which takes you to the five “freshwater pools” of the canyon in half an hour. You can take a refreshing bath and simply relax. For the way back you have to count an hour. We undertook this tour when it was 35 degrees in the schade. All in all, a very sweaty affair. But our reward, the well-earned cooling, was always in sight.” J. Ehmer, Villa Nives (Sicily), July/August 2008.

„We were resp. we are absolutely enthusiastic about this region in Italy! We were particularly pleased by the magnificent green landscape, the extremely clean sea, the cordiality of the Italian people, the authenticity of the area (it is the way you imagine or wish an authentic Italy to be), the fresh fish in the pescheria, above all spigola and alici (the latter very good to marinate) – simply Italy! Our Cilento-tip: The Bussento Gorge is surely worth a visit (see photo)!” H. Zaugg, Villa Lentini (Cilento), July 2008.
The owner fulfilled all our wishes …
“Dear Mr. Baldauf, we greatly enjoyed our stay at Villa Julia in Pompeii! We were very cordially received; room, breakfast and the house and garden in general are very well kept and lovingly furnished. The owner fulfilled all our wishes and was always very helpful. On our last evening, he prepared for us, at our request, (…) a wonderful farewell table with wine, juice, and snacks. Wonderful with candles and a lot of charm! Can recommend it anytime, not only because of its proximity to the ancient sites! Greetings from the relaxed Swiss.” Ch. Nyffenegger, Villa Julia (Pompeii, Gulf of Naples), July 2008.

„ Dear Cilantano-Team, enclosed please find a picture which conveys exactly how happy we were during our holiday in Pisciotta this year! It shows us taking our regular evening apero on our extremely beautiful terrace after coming back from the beach.” Their Cilento-tip: “Oil mill neat the Alimentari Mautone at Pisciotta – delicious oil, communicative and friendly olive farmer!” Are they planning to return? “Yes, because it is a fantastic area in Italy.” A. Schlesies, Villa Tramonto (Cilento), June 2008.

"Hello! We would like to send you a picture of our wonderful holiday in the Cilento." In the midst of Southern Italian everyday life: in the picture the piazza of Pisciotta – in the background the village policeman who is rather good-natured. C. and M. Schaubach, Casa del Pescatore (Cilento), June 2008.

We were particularly pleased by "the landscape, the clean sea and the fact that there are few tourists. Our Cilento-tip: definitely, a trip into the hinterland to the small villages. It's worthwhile in spite of the winding roads!" M. Reichmann, Casa Poli (Cilento), June 2008.

„Dear Cilentano-Team, our holiday in the Cilento was again fantastic! (…) An overall great excursion took us to Padula. Actually, we “only” wanted to visit the Certosa. But then we decided to stay in town for lunch. That was really worth it! On the way back to Marina di Camerota, we rounded Monte Bulgheria taking small narrow roads. The landscape here is beautiful beyond comparison. During one of the many stops to take pictures, it suddenly became noisy. On this sunny day in May, Inter Milan had won the Italian football championships. A trek of cars and scooters of celebrating Tifosi came along the road. This gave us the opportunity to take a few snapshots of this jolly community of fans.” Fam. Wagenhofer, Villa Pomarico (Cilento), May 2008.

"We did some wonderful hiking according to the descriptions in the 'Cilento-Aktiv' guide by Peter Amann. We are taken by nature and its combination of sea and mountains. The picture was taken on our hiking tour from Ogliastro Marina via Punta Licosa to Santa Maria di Castellabate und shows a view from the harbour of San Marco towards Castellabate." I. Brand, La Giacaranda (Cilento), May 2008.

„We stayed at Villa Bellamarina in Marina di Camerota for 2 months from end of March to mid May 2008 and would like to recommend it to other viewers of this site as we had such an enjoyable time there. My friend and I were embarking on a 2 year round the world trip and wanted a couple of months relaxation in Italy to start us off! Villa Bellamarina was the perfect place for this! Our hosts were so welcoming and friendly (...)! Several times during our stay Francesca or one of her daughters would call up to our balcony and lift up a plate of food freshly baked that she had prepared for us! We were completely overwelmed by her kind hospitality, and that of her husband, who often offered us a lift home if he met us en route from the shops. The apartment was spacious, clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. (...) We spent much of our time, when not exploring the local area, sat out on the large balcony facing the sea (...). It was a wonderful place to sit with a fabulous view of the town and ocean. Marina di Camerota itself was a lovely town with a busy marina, lovely beach and the town piazza was a great place to sit at any time and watch the comings and goings. Not too touristy which was definitely part of its charm! It was also a good base for visiting other parts of southern Italy - we had weekends away in both Capri and Sicily while we were there, both of which were very easy to get to.“ Picture: at the Calanca Beach in Marina di Camerota. J. Kinnersley, Villa Bellamarina (Cilento), March to May 2008.
A truly paradisiacal accommodation
“We were enthusiastic about the fantastic landscape and the truly “paradisiacal” accommodation: fantastic location and an exceptionally hearty service. It was more of a small apartment than a room. We felt really well taken care of.” C. Kindel, B&B Orto Paradiso (Amalfi coast), April/May 2008.

"Hiking, nature and the coast as well as the open-hearted people" are the reasons why Th. Preisig can imagine returning to the Cilento. Casette Mimosa e Primula (Cilento), May 2008.

Mrs. Oswald in a pescheria in Avola. "Dear Cilentano-Team, thank you very much for the good planning and the tip to take along warm clothing. December evenings can be rather cold on Sicily, even though you can enjoy the sunshine on the veranda at noon. We felt very comfortable at Villa Nives." Guests Oswald, Villa Nives (Sicily), December 2007.
