Every year, the Cilento scores exceptionally well concerning the ranking of beaches with excellent bathing water quality.
The
FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) bases its choice on very strict criteria. For years, the Cilento has been the top of the list in Campania. Many of its municipalities are allowed to fly the coveted “bandiera blu”, the “Blue Flag”.

In 2013, the following towns and their beaches are pleased to have been awarded the Blue Flag: Agropoli, Castellabate, Montecorice (Agnone, Capitello), Pollica (Acciaroli; Pioppi), Casal Velino, Ascea, Pisciotta, Centola (Palinuro), Vibonati (Villammare) und Sapri. Bordering on the southern end of the Cilento, the area around Maratea (Basilikata) also flies the Blue Flag.
A complete list of the Italian beaches allowed to fly the “bandiera blu” in 2013, can be found on the sites of the organisation Feeitalia.
