Should you have filled in and sent back the questionnaire after your holiday in the Cilento, then you will surely be acquainted with the delicious olive oil of Cooperativa Agricola Nuovo Cilento. For several years now, we have been cooperating with the co-op from San Mauro Cilento and have been thanking our customers for their feedbacks with the „Terre Antiche“-oil. The olive oil produced on an ecological basis tastes excellent and is especially suited as an ingredient for Mediterranean dishes, but it also contains a large number of antioxidants. The latter have a particularly positive influence on the human organism and serve as a good protective means against the ageing process.

The agricultural cooperative „Nuovo Cilento“ was founded in 1976 and has ca. 200 members. In Italy, the cooperative is the largest producer of organic olive oil. Concerning the production and certification of organic olive oil and of olive oil with trademarked certificate of origin, the cooperative is surely the pioneer within Italy.

Terre Antiche organic olive oil Cilento

Cooperativa Nuovo Cilento aims at supporting their producers concerning the adoption of sustainable production according to organic principles and at guaranteeing adequate producer's prices for the farmers. The three kinds of olive oil extra vergine „Terre Antiche“ (organic production), „Terre dei Monaci“ (with trademarked certificate of origin) und „Terre del Casale“ are made from the Cilento's main kinds of olive La Rotondella and La Salella. Very though and resistant, they are, therefore, perfectly suited  for extensive and sustainable cultivation.

For the extraction of oil, Cooperativa Nuovo Cilento uses the system of continuous cold extraction. This particularly gentle method preserves the olives' valuable antioxidants (polyphenol and vitamin E) and natural taste. It is remarkable that the residues left by the production of the oil are also used: the cooperative uses the olive pips for producing warmth and the olive pulp as fertiliser.

Besides organic olive oil, Cooperativa Nuovo Cilento's offer also includes figs. Dried figs in rum can be especially recommended. Those interested in the way the delicious olive oil is produced can take part in a guided tour offered by the Cooperativa and topped off by a tasting afterwards.
