A real treat: first-class wines of the Bios brand

„Figuring out the secrets of oenology is surely more difficult than acquiring a degree in engineering”, that is how the engineer Mario Ianniello sums up his experiences. In spite of his modesty, he is very successful in wine making – for almost 20 years now, he and his wife Maria Rosaria Scorziello have been operating the winery „Azienda Agricola Scorziello Ianiello“ in the municipality of Roccadaspide  and in the meantime it has become known beyond the borders of Italy.

Biologically certified wines of the Bios brand, e.g. Barbera Castel San Lorenzo DOC or Bianco Castel San Lorenzo DOC, as well as Cilento grappa are produced here – delicacies which make you want more of Italy. The ca. five hectares of vineyard were laid out in 1979 by Maria Rosaria Scorziello’s father and, from the beginning, the winery perceived itself as an ecological enterprise emphasizing nature-oriented production and wishing to familiarize people with the taste of its home country – the Cilento.  

Producing rather a bit less but the best wine – that is Scorziello Ianniello’s high demand to quality. The vines are treated with sulphur and copper only – the sole products biological production tolerates. Synthetic fertilizers and herbicides are not used – even for tying the vines willow is used instead of the usual plastic. The fact that the grapes are processed only minutes after having been harvested also speaks in favour of the Bios wines’ high quality.

Exquisite and high quality wines served in many restaurants along the Amalfi coast and in the Cilento are the result of this complex method of production. You can enjoy Bios wines at the restaurants „Il Grigliaro“ at Pioppi, „I tre Gufi“ and „Da Angiolina“ at Pisciotta, for example. The addresses can be found in our Cilento Service booklet.  

Since 2000, Maria Rosaria Scorziello and Mario Ianniello have been exporting their products to Germany – German tourists had tasted the wines at the winery during their holidays in Italy and had been so thrilled that they did not want to do without them back home. If you are lucky enough, you might come across and enjoy a real Bios wine at a German restaurant.

If you do not want to leave it to chance and take a bit of Italy home: You can buy the excellent Bios wines directly at the winery or at various specialities shops at the Amalfi coast or in the Cilento. The wines and the grappa can also be ordered by e-mail or mail.
