Italian tradition and hospitality are of great importance at Hotel La Vela. The hotel managed by family Consalvo is located 8 km east of Ascea, at Pioppi, directly at the sea and the sandy beach and right in the middle of the Cilento National Park.

Each of the well-tended guest rooms offers an en suite bathroom (WC and shower), Sat-TV, air conditioning, heating as well as a hair dryer and a safe. Some of the rooms have a balcony and sea view.

Culinary delights are in no way neglected at Hotel La Vela. Cooking and preparing traditional recipes and meals in the kitchen of the adjoining restaurant are done by the owner himself.

Home made bread from the stone oven, home made pasta and fresh fish are always on the menu. The ingredients used are mainly of local origin. The owners proudly point out that the seeds of the famous “Dieta Mediterranea” lie in this area.

Meals can be taken either outdoors, on the terrace, or in the adjacent dining room.

You can take a swim or a sunbath at the hotel’s private sandy beach where deck chairs and sun shades are provided.

Those keen on sports can use the hotel’s tennis courts.

There are enough parking lots for those arriving by car.

The nearest shopping facilities as well as bars and restaurants are at a stone’s throw from the hotel.

Pioppi is a small, picturesque bathing resort. Old mansions, the beautiful piazza, cafés, pizzerias and a marine museum invite you to linger for a while. A walk along the alley lined by palm trees should be part of a relaxed holiday, too.

Tips for hikers and those interested in culture:

Pioppi is an ideal starting point for hiking tours, e.g. to Póllica, one of the nicest towns in the western part of the Cilento. Following the valley of Mortelle, passing kitchen gardens, vineyards and fruit groves, you enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view of the Gulf of Ascea, the ancient ruins of Vélia and the Cape of Palinuro. Descending to Acciaroli, you pass olive groves and cross fragrant macchia. You can then take a bus back to Pioppi.

It is only a few kilometres to the ancient Greek town of Velia.

The town is well-known for the excavations of the Greek town of Elea (today: Velia) dating from the 6^th century BC. Elea enjoyed a great reputation due to its significant school of philosophy, its main representatives Parmenides and Xenon being the intellectual pioneers of the classical Greek philosophy of Plato and Aristotle; among other things, they taught the spherical shape of the earth.

Nearest train station: Ascea or Vallo della Lucania


The ancient Greek town of Velia is only a few kilometres away.		Water bugs can use the hotel’s private sandy beach, deck chairs and sun shades are provided.

The prices are given in Euro and are valid per person and day in a double room (DR) or a single room (SR) including breakfast (B&B) or half board (HB).

Minimum stay: normally 3 nights, from 21.07.-01.09.2012 7 nights (arrival and departure Saturday).

Surcharge for room with sea view balcony: 20 Euro/room.

Admission to hotel beach including sunshade and sun bed: free of charge for HB bookings. B&B bookings pay 10 Euro in June, 15 Euro in July and 20 Euro in August per room and day.

Additional bed: 20% discount.

Children from 2 to 12 years, in the same room with their parents: 50% discount.
Children from 0 to 2 years, in the same room with their parents: 15 Euro/day in period 30.06.-01.09.2012. Otherwise, only possible board has to be paid for.

Tennis: 8 Euro/hour.
