Architectural masterpiece in harmony with nature
Location and special feature:
Designed by the a Roman architect and repeatedly praised as an architectural work of art by trade magazines, the villa lies nestling against the rock and enthroned high above the Gulf of Policastro, surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation.
The exclusive panoramic view stretching from green hilly landscape, the fishing village of Scario, the bay of Policastro up to Calabria simply takes your breath away.
It was the architect's concern to add the house to the landscape, not as an intruder on nature, but a harmonious complement of the Cilento's fauna and flora.
And that is exactly what he succeeded in doing - the forms and colours of the landscape are reflected in the architecture of the house. In the living room, for example, you will find Cilento limestone, its curve-like shape reflecting the cycle of nature.
In spite of this affinity to nature, he has succeeded in providing stylish and modern accents. He designed almost all the furniture himself.
Premises:
The main building and the dependance include a 1,500 m² property with such a variety of plants hardly possible for your eyes to capture.
In the midst of Mediterranean macchia, all kinds of flowers, from bougainvillea to lantana, add colourful touches to the garden.
The paths designed for taking short walks and paved with regional rock blend perfectly into the landscape.
The pond with its purling fountain, small benches to rest upon, the fresh fragrance of nature and the perpetual view of the sea – all this will turn your stay at Villa Il Gabbiano into an altogether relaxing experience.
The villa:
Entering the main building via the terrace takes you into a large room with high beamed ceiling. It includes the kitchen, the living-dining room with sofa, dining table, chairs and TV, a stairway to the roof terrace and stairs taking you to a lounge with sofa which is also openly integrated into the living space. From there a spiral staircase takes you to the bedroom with en suite bathroom (shower/WC/bidet). Via the staircase to the roof terrace you reach the second bedroom, a twin, with an adjoining bathroom (shower/WC/bidet) and with its own access of the garden.
Kitchen:
The kitchen is equipped with a 5-burner gas stove, electric oven, micro wave, refrigerator with freezer compartment and toaster.
Terraces:
There are three sea view terraces at Villa Il Gabbiano: the main terrace, the roof terrace and the terrace at the dependance.
The main terrace is equipped with rattan furniture, deck chairs, a solid glass table as well as a small side table. Here, protected from the sun, you can simply relax, meet for a coffee party with typically Italian „caffè“ or just enjoy the warmth out-of-doors.
The roof terrace offers a 360° view and invites you to enjoy moments of relaxation, too.
Dependance:
A small path takes you from the main building to the dependence, which includes a twin room, a small terrace with two chairs and a small table as well as a bathroom (shower/WC/bidet).
General information:
The villa's furnishing includes a washing machine and an iron.
You can park your car on the fenced premises of the holiday home.
Surroundings:
The centre of Scario is about 800 m from Villa Il Gabbiano. There you will find grocery stores, café bars, restaurants and a beautiful promenade where you can take walks etc.
The nearest beach is ca. 1.2 km off.
Hiking tip: Right from the holiday home you can start on a tour to the medieval mountain village of San Giovanni a Piro (Cilento).
