At the foot of Monte Soprano, lies the country house Il Grottone. Its name is derived from the grotto in the rock face adjacent to the estate and serving as a place of refuge for people as early as the Palaeolithic era (Old Stone Age).
Here, directly adjacent to the core zone of the Cilento National Park, the owner has created a real gem.
The completely renovated house mirrors a part of Cilento history, at the same time its 180 sqm of living space offer the comfort of a modern holiday home with particularly good style furnishing.
The plain of the river Sele spreads at your feet; you have got a view of the Cilento coast and across the sea all the way to Capri and the Amalfitana.
The quarry stone façade, the outdoor areas of the house as well as the interior decoration are proof of a love for detail and a sense of taste.
The rooms of the country house convey vastness in spite of their rustic-elegant furnishing: this is due primarily to its ceilings which are up to three metres high.
Via the garden, you access the first of the two living rooms. A couch suite next to the fireside and TV invite you to sit back and rest.
The architectural structure on the ground floor favours openings – towards the kitchen and the second living room – and thus makes for an airy atmosphere.
The second living room, with fireside, TV, radio, CD-player and a dining area, is characterized by its individual and expertly restored furniture and pieces of decoration. The room gives access to the garden terrace and the upper floor.
There is a safe for the deposit of your valuables.
The eat-in kitchen with access of the garden offers a dining area as well as a bar with bistro chairs; the fitted kitchen is equipped with a dish washer. The washing machine is to be found in a separate storage room.
The reading room with access of the garden can be turned into a third bedroom (sofa bed for two), if need be.
The three bathrooms of the country house have Vietri ceramic tiles. The bathroom on the ground floor is equipped with sitz bath/bidet/WC.
On the upper floor, you will find two bedrooms (double and twin), each of which has an en suite bathroom (double: shower/bidet/WC, twin: shower/WC).
From the spacious double bedroom you can access the roof terrace with sea view. The small balcony offers panorama at its best, too. The floor-to-ceiling built-in closet with its restored doors is extraordinarily beautiful.
Upon request, the owner will readily furnish a cot.
The well-tended garden offers sufficient possibilities to pass your time outdoors.
Be it under the gazebo with its rattan couch suite, on the furnished and roofed terrace, in the sitting area under the trees, on the garden swing or simply on one of the sun beds on the lawn – in this green oasis you can give in to pure relaxation. In the evening, you can enjoy a pizza from the stone oven.
The country house is equipped with central heating, a pellet stove and two firesides.
Parking on the premises is available.
The nearest shopping facilities and restaurants are 2 km off, at Capaccio.
Those who spend their holidays here enter a world of untouched nature, they get to know the genuine-rural face of the Cilento and yet they are not far from the sea.
It is only a few minutes by car to the impressive, ancient Greek temples of Paestum.
