When approaching the mountain village of Rocca Cilento, which lies enthroned 600 m above sea level, you can already feel the mystical aura about the place. Unlike the coastal towns, the Cilento hinterland has a rather peaceful and charming character. Rocca Cilento, together with three other towns, was the first village and the origin of the Cilento. Up to the mid 19th century, the place was strategically important for the military defence of the area. This is attested by the majestic castle, which you can stop to visit during your stroll through the small alleys of the village.
At the former Franciscan monastery Antico Convento, which was founded in the 14th century, you can still feel a touch of the past today. However, you needn't do without comfort and a homelike atmosphere, as it has been lovingly restored and renovated by its present-day owners. At Rocca Cilento, you join the inhabitants' leisurely pace of life and you experience holidays of a different kind!
The interplay of such a building rich in history and the new high quality furnishing makes for the homelike and comfortable atmosphere of the place. The accommodation:
Due to its seven rooms, the monastery may be the right place especially for groups. But it is also an ideal accommodation for families and couples, because you can book less than seven rooms. During your stay, the unoccupied rooms remain vacant and you have got the whole guest wing to yourself.
You enter the monastery via a small courtyard decorated with plants and then climb a few steps to the guest wing. The latter includes seven differently designed rooms with private bathroom (shower cabin, WC/bidet), wardrobe and TV each. Find detailed information about the rooms below:

A kitchen, a living room and a partly roofed terrace with various seating accommodations complete the guest wing.
The living area is furnished with an open fireside and two large leather sofas, a dining table and a cabinet. From here, you access the terrace as well as the kitchen with its 5-burner gas stove, oven, refrigerator with freezer compartment, dish washer and smaller dining table.
From the courtyard, you also enter the small tavern. There, you can take part in dinners and wine or schnapps tasting, if you wish to do so. Taste the excellent fennel schnapps, for example, which the owner is particularly proud of! To all those interested in the "dieta mediterranea", the owner offers cooking classes and passes on his knowledge.

A grocery store is 200 m, the nearest supermarket 5 km off.
Excursions:
The owner offers transfer to the most beautiful hiking trails in the surrounding area (minibus for a maximum of 9 persons), for example, the trail to Monte Stella or the trails „mulini antici“, „conventi e castelli“ and „calore di felitto“.
The sea, or rather the beautiful beaches round Agropoli and Castellabate are 13 km off.
Also worth a visit and only half an hour by car from Rocca Cilento – the town of Castellabate, which lies on a rock high above the sea and has come to be known by the motion picture „Benvenuti al sud“.
